Customer Reviews
Hut was completely packed with a loud group of pre teens and some sort of leader (boy scouts? No idea). They took over the entire space. Place was a mess. No where to sit and cool off which was disappointing during a difficult hike. I guess I had high standards coming from greenleaf
Very cold, but I went in mid-October, as snow fell on the hike up. It's rustic, but the crew was great, just like at all the AMC hits that I have visited. You don't go here expecting to be pampered, but those type of people are typically weeded out in the hour and a half climb to get there in the first place.
My girlfriend & I stopped in here after hiking Mt. Pierce. We had never stayed at a hut, so we grabbed the opportunity. It was after Labor Day & they had vacancies. (I always heard you had to book months in advance). We had no sleeping bags, but they provide everyone with 3 blankets & a pillow. It was in the 40's this night, but we were warm. Be prepared! It is rustic, but that's part of the experience. There is no heat or hot water. There are no showers, but there is running cold water in the bathrooms. And there is potable water from a faucet downstairs. There is no electricity, but the solar panels make enough for the full kitchen & dining room lights. Bring a headlamp or flashlight for the bedrooms. We had the luxury tonight of getting our own room, but usually you are bunking with oth
The AMC huts never disappoint. Even though they were short staffed, during my visit, dinner and breakfast were awesome and they still kept every engaged and happy. This was my first time in this hut and I would say it is one of the better when you compare how it was configured. It even has a library. I highly recommend hiking up and paying them a visit.
This is a backcountry lodge to which you hike. Reservations should be made in advance. Rooms sleep about 12 on bunks and are shared. Bathrooms are shared. Meals are included and served family style. The staff is energetic, engaging, and knowledgeable, introducing themselves with an entertaining skits and leading naturalist programs. The food was very good, including many made-from-scratch treats.
