Beautiful facility. Camping, shelters, platforms, lodges and huts. All set on a beautiful lake. They offer free tent rentals and hiking boots which is really lovely. The food was not great. Very processed. But otherwise just lovely.
This is the beautiful site of old Camp La-No-Wa, run by the Boys Athletic League for thousands of “underprivileged” NYC boys from the 1920s to 1980s, of whom I was one (1969-71). Deeply moving to return to what was (to me) a sacred place after 50+ years. Had to fight back a tear while eating jn the dining hall as I remembered tasting corn bread for the first time as a 10-year old & singing our old camp song “Tell me Why.” Food was very good & professionally presented. Good coffee at breakfast. AMC has done a wonderful job renovating the site & the cabin we stayed in was spotless & comfortable. Of course the staff (most of whom were born after the BAL vanished) don’t know the old camp history or place names like Crazy Annie Island & Sunset Rock, but they were invariably friendly & helpful.
Tim, Tara and the team up here provide an awesome outdoor experience. Clean shelters, platforms and cabins. Good dining hall! Hot showers, real toilets and close proximity to camp area. Plenty of canoes and kayaks to use. Great pond/lake for swimming, sunning or reading!
I had a wonderful vacation here! The lake and the lake views are absolutely gorgeous, and not crowded or littered as the area is only for use by registered guests. The kayaks and canoes were plentiful, in good shape and easy to access. We took a beautiful hike (through woods and down to another lake) right from the cabin area. Our cabin, the bathhouse, indoor & outdoor structures were all clean and well maintained. The mini fridge in the cabin was a plus. The staff were friendly, pleasant and helpful. Things to know: You must unload your belongings, then drive to a parking lot (about 1/4 mile away) and walk back. Some of the ground is quite rocky, therefore not handicapped accessible, and a flashlight is helpful to navigate at night. Next time I would bring wire hangers to hang up wet s
We camped for 2 nights. Tentsites were nice but we had to backpack into ours. There are a bunch of different options that create vastly different experiences for people. If you are not sure what you can handle or what would be best for you, call up and ask.
