AKA University City

Clean, well appointed and gorgeous views from every room. Perfect accommodations for our family of four. We used the beautiful gym, amazing lap pool and golf simulator - wish we had more time to linger, we could have made a full day of it. Location was very convenient as close to the train station, and in warmer weather Cira Green park would be fun to visit. Staff was warm, welcoming and lovely all around. We will definitely be back!

If convenient access to Penn, CHOPS, Drexel and Amtrak are priorities, then stay here. ||However, this location is fairly isolated, overrated, pretentious and is inferior to the Rittenhouse Square AKA at which my husband and have stayed multiple times and for which I have posted 2 positive reviews.||We arrived early via train and requested an early check in, explaining that we'd had a rough trip - our DC cab was in an accident en route to Union Station (we both suffered back pain) and I literally had to stand in rush hour traffic on the main road to DC and flag down a stranger for a ride so as not to miss our train. ||Even thought the room had been vacated, the hotel’s front desk staffer (unfortunately, I did not get her name) declined our request but said she would prioritize check in and

We’ve stayed here several times in the past and liked it, which makes this visit especially disappointing The property has clearly declined: rooms are run down, elevator buttons don’t work reliably, and common areas (including the pool) are visibly deteriorating. Front desk service was inconsistent and, at times, openly hostile. We were initially given a much smaller room than booked and told no alternatives existed, which turned out not to be true. The replacement room had a strong chlorine smell and was unusable for hours. A late checkout was confirmed by one staff member, then abruptly denied the next morning by another without explanation. This was our family’s first stay here, and we were so impressed with the views, amenities, cleanliness and service! We would highly recommend AKA University City! The gym has amazing views, as well as the pool and from the room. It’s very modern and well-maintained.

The AKA is easily one of the best hotels you can stay at in Philly, and that's a fact. Aside from that, I had a little bit of trouble with check-in since I booked on booking.com and then wanted to extend my stay which was not possible on booking.com. The lovely staff at reception, particularly Sanaa, made that impossibility a possibility. I'm so grateful to them for making that process simple and easy, when at most other places it would've been incredibly difficult. I love the AKA in university city and can't recommend it more to anyone traveling to Philadelphia.
